VISA

To enter the U.K. you require either a visa, entry certificate or a letter of consent. This can be obtained from a British Embassy a High Commissioner and there may be charges.

Most people coming to the U.K. will be given a visitor VISA. This is normally for six months and there are restrictions an employment. This period can sometimes be extended.

Sponsorship from someone in the U.K. (i.e. Relative, Friend or Course Organiser) is not necessary but helps.

Below is a list of documents that you would require:-

  • Passport
  • University Degree Certificate
  • GMC exam admit card/ letter
  • Documents to confirm adequate funds to pay for stay in U.K. (£2,000 – 3 months statements)
  • Sponsorship letter from U.K. party ( If applicable ) or Bank Statement if possible*
  • Documents to confirm where you will be staying in U.K.*
  • IELTS Certificate • Clinical Attachment Letter if applicable*
  • Documents to show adequate funds in home property country e.g. Bank Statements, Property)

* NHS Recruits can provide a letter confirming that the candidate is attending our course and that accommodation will be provided as requested. This will only be provided once registered and all identity documents (Passport/GMC Admit Card) have been received.

PERMIT FREE TRAINING (PFT)

Once you have passed PLAB and find a job you may apply for extension of leave to remain in the U.K. Employment in the UK is restricted, and overseas nationals normally require a work permit. Doctors undertaking Postgraduate training in hospital or community health services (but not in General Practice) may be employed without a work permit subject to certain conditions, an arrangement called "Permit-Free Training" (PFT), which is administered by the Immigration and Nationality Division (IND) of the Home. For more information contact the nearest immigration office or the British Counsel.
